The Paklenica National Park – the first to be founded in Croatia – is a haven for rock climbers & Free Climbers alike.  The main cliff face which is 712 metres tall has the name “Anica Kuk” this face was only finally conquered in the 1940,s. Today, there are some 400 equipped climbing routes of varying difficulty and length, providing something to satisfy every climber. The Park has produced an organised map that allows you to pick within you cababilities or set yourself a challenge.

The main climbing season in Paklenica begins in spring and lasts until late autumn.  Our weather is Mediterranean plus we have the benefit of the coastal clemency for the whole of this period.

Here in Starigrad Paklenica we are extremely lucky to have what is acknowledged to be some of the best sport climbing in Europe. So good that each year at the end of April or early May “The European Big Wall Speed Climbing Competiton” is held, attracting teams from all over Europe.

Climbing in the park is extremely well documented with over 400 traditional and pegged routes all detailed in a very thorough and comprehensive guide book which we keep a copy of for you to use.

The guidebook (2006) covers all the sports and traditional rock climbing routes in the National Park of Paklenica. It includes amongst others:

Sports routes in Klanci
Traditional and sports routes on Anica kuk
Traditional and sports routes on Debeli kuk

Velebit from Seline

The guide has good clear topographical sketchs for all the crags covered. The text at the start of each crag and/or section is in English. Routes and where appropriate pitches (some climbs are up to 11 pitches long) are graded accurately on the French system.

There is something for every climber in the park from complete novice to highly skilled and experienced climbers (grades on the French scale, F5a to F8b+ in Klanci alone).
